[Homura is examining the journal when he presses the button to begin recording. He doesn't notice the change at first, as he's more interested in the device itself, so there are a few moments of quiet contemplation before he speaks softly, mostly to himself.]

Not entirely nice, no. I worked very hard to die as I did. I'd almost say it seems wasted.

But being alive does have its good points.

Yes. Gloomy. It's never good to focus on death. Much better to focus on the life we have left before it.

I suppose. We're just drawn here for some reason or another and left to our own devices mostly. Unless it's an experiment time or the Malnosso decide to be brats and take us. They can be so troublesome.

Oh, and I'm not working now because I caught a cold. My friends won't let me leave my room until I'm better. Especially since I sneaked out earlier and made it a little worse.

...You have a rather casual way of putting things, you know. Why don't you tell me just what you mean by the Malnosso and experiments?

That sounds wise of them. So are you staying in out of consideration for your health, consideration for them, or because they've arranged a better system for keeping you in?

And I know. Since you're so gloomy, I didn't want you to get upset anymore. But, the Malnosso are an organization that keeps up locked up in here. Whether they're good or bad is a bit fuzzy, but they can do both good and really, really bad things to us. Oh, there's a guide that explains everything, I think. Would you like to see it?

So why do they do these things? For what purpose? And what constitutes a good or a bad thing, in your mind?

I don't know. I suppose I might if there were something to do and I could manage it. But Yamazaki-san would probably chain me to the bed after that.

It seems as if it will be. Someone went to a great deal of effort to put this together.
