And, well, he's also an important member of our travelling party. We would never reach India without him!

In that case, it would be best to consult with the people you're celebrating the anniversary with, to determine what is an appropriate timeframe for them. Otherwise, I suppose a yearly celebration would do.

[ Shh, it's still an amusing thought. ]Yes, Sanzo's starting to get fed up with it, too. But oh, we'll get there... Eventually. Perhaps when unrelated parties stop coming after us.
You want to surprise that person, then. I believe you are free to choose any date you wish, if that is the case. That person would appreciate the thought, regardless of whenever you decide to celebrate it.

Your situation would be complicated only if you wished it to be. Just choose the duration you feel to be most appropriate.
